MULTAN, Pakistan (AP) — A high-speed passenger bus rammed a pickup truck on a highway in eastern Pakistan, killing 13 people and injuring several, a police spokesman said Saturday.

The accident happened overnight in Rahim Yar Khan, a district of Punjab province, according to Mohammad Awais, spokesman for the district police. He said the dead and injured were taken to hospital.

Awais did not provide further details, saying only that officers are still investigating the cause.

Traffic accidents in Pakistan often occur due to regulatory violations, resulting in thousands of deaths and injuries each year. Last month, a bus hit a pillar and fell off a bridge, catching fire, killing 40 passengers in the southern district of Lasbela.
