The former president of BrazilJair Bolsonaro participated this Saturday in the largest annual forum of the right which took place in UNITED STATES and announced that his mission in the country “is not over”.
“It’s not easy to be a politician, especially when you want to honor your word and help people. At this moment I thank God for my second life and the mission of having been President of Brazil for one term, but deep down I feel that this mission is not over”said during his presentation to the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Washington.
The intervention of the Brazilian was one of the most awaited with that of his American counterpart, donald trump, who have often been compared and whose relationship is “simply exceptional”. It turned out that after this event, the two will hold a private meeting.
During the 24 minutes during which he addressed the audience, he emphasized that “in this land of freedom, progress and order, I feel like I am in Brazil. It is very comforting to be received in this way in Brazil and all over the world. I am Brazil’s most beloved former president”.
Bolsonaro has been in the United States since December, when he visited the Florida before the assumption of Lula da Silva and where, from now on, he hopes to complete the immigration procedures to obtain a visa which will allow him to stay for a few more months.
Regarding his stay in the North American country, he said he was very satisfied and stressed that “we can see here a migration of people who go from the Democratic states to the Republican states. They are looking for a better life.”
Next, the former president reviewed his four years in office and highlighted some of his achievements. “Brazilians who had given up their flag began to like it. People began to understand politics better, the Brazilian Congress. The names of deputies and senators -and not just footballers- were part of daily life in the Brazil. I’m sure we sowed a lot of seeds.”he proudly listed.
True to his style, the far-right leader took advantage of the space to once again cast doubt on the latest elections in which he was beaten by Lula and in which he implies that there was fraud. “I had a lot more support in 2022 than in 2018. I don’t know why the numbers reflected the opposite”said.
However, this time he limited himself to talking about this issue and did not refer to the events of January 8, during which he is being investigated as incitement to the coup attempt. .
Moments before his presentation, he spoke to the channel CNN Brazil on the accusation discovered a few hours earlier by the newspaper Or State of São Pauloin which his government was accused of having attempted smuggling jewelry worth $3.2 million into the country. These were said to have been a gift from Saudi Arabia to the then first lady, Michelle Bolsonaroand date of October 2021.
In this regard, he pointed out that he is “accused of a gift that I neither asked for nor received. There is no illegality on my part, no illegal practice.”.
Before Bolsonaro, his son Edward spoke at the same event and criticized the president’s administration Joe Biden For “don’t look too much at Brazil”even despite the geostrategic importance of your country as an energy or food producer.
“I think (the United States) is very happy with the new administration of Lula da Silva.who had a great meeting with Biden” on February 11, quipped and added that “we have to be allies” given that the two nations have a “similar culture”.
Finally, he warned Americans not to be fooled by the current Brazilian president, whom he defined as “one of the most dangerous communists or socialists – whatever you call him – in world”.
