Covid-19 infections saw a 24% decrease in Bolivia last week compared to the same previous period, meaning the disease has been on the decline for eight consecutive weeks in the country, the Minister of Health reported on Monday. Health, Jeson Auza.
The previous week, the country reported 1,071 coronavirus cases, 346 less than in the previous seven days, “this means a decrease of 24%”, the minister said in a statement to the media.
“With this, we add eight consecutive weeks to the drop in cases”, although for the moment “the lowest figure between one wave and another” has not been reached”, he explained.
Auza pointed out that the death rate in the sixth wave remains at 0.1%, compared to 6.2% recorded in the first wave.
The sixth wave of infections occurred last December and peaked in the third week of this month with more than 16,000 infections reported before entering a de-escalation phase.
Bolivia has accumulated 1,192,204 cases and 22,362 deaths from covid-19 since March 2020, when the first coronavirus infections were reported in the national territory, according to the latest official report.
Since the start of vaccination against the disease at the end of January 2021, 15,779,945 vaccines have been applied, including the first, second, third and fourth doses, in addition to single-application drugs.
The minister also pointed to other diseases under “special” surveillance, including monkeypox, of which 264 cases have accumulated so far, including 263 already cured and one active.
Auza recommended that the population “maintain biosecurity measures regarding this disease” during the carnival celebrations taking place these days in Bolivia.
Regarding whooping cough, the country reports 276 cumulative cases, including four active and 269 cured, he said.
