Sergio Palazzo, Secretary General of the Association of Banks

The Banking Association has set a date for the 24-hour strike it announced earlier this month. After a new hearing during which the union representation did not reach an agreement with the chambers of the sector in the discussion for the 2023 parities, the date of next February 23 – Thursday of next week – has been set for a 24-hour nationwide strike.

The forceful measure will involve a total interruption of face-to-face banking services, according to the union leadership.

“No agreement has been reached. We have proposed, beyond the percentages and to review the parities of 2022, that the business sector take over part of the income tax that workers pay today. response was negative,” Palazzo said from the door of the offices of the Ministry of Labor, located at Callao 114 in the city of Buenos Aires, where he made statements to the press.

As part of this, the AB general secretary confirmed a total shutdown of activities for 24 hours for Thursday 23 February and provided that if the business sector does not pay attention to the complaint, the union will meet “to intensify the measures”.

“We are asking for compensation. Until there is, there will be no possible parity that we can agree on,” Palazzo remarked.

Furthermore, he argued that this is “the second month” in which a new joint agreement is expected to be in effect and that as long as the dispute continues, workers “will continue to earn the same as in December”. .

“Patience has a limit and that is why a measure of force is going to be taken. Each agency will have the power to mobilize on its territory, so there will surely be mobilizations at the doors of the banks”, he added. .

Claim

In a press release, the Bankers Association had announced that it would carry out a 24-hour strike during the month of February, without however specifying a date. They argued that they demand a “defense of wages” and reject the “provocative position of the chambers of commerce”, in the context of the joint negotiation they conduct. From now on, faced with the failure of a new negotiating body, the strike has a date.

The banking union, which brings together some 90,000 workers, had then expressed the need for “responses to all the proposals made during the three joint hearings which have been held so far within the perimeter of the national ministry of labor”. And he clarified: “Among them, the salary update, closing the parity of 2022 and that corresponding to this year, in addition to urgently settling the issue of income tax.”

“We hope that the chambers of commerce will reconsider and bring to the new hearing called by the ministry, a proposal that considers and meets all the needs of the workers of the Bank,” added the statement from the union. Palazzo, last week, had already issued a warning, in another text which bore the title “We want answers, we are tired of it”. Yesterday Palazzo met with Máximo Kirchner and asked for the candidacy of Cristina Kirchner.

What services does this affect?

Along with in-branch customer service, the force measure will also affect the collection of social plans, retirement and pensions. For example, pensions and pensions that exceed the minimum amount and whose holders have a DNI ending in 2 will be invoiced this Thursday.

In addition, those who receive the universal family allowance (AUH) will be affected in the case of a DNI ending in 8 (February 22) and a DNI ending in 9 (February 23).

Those who receive the Pregnancy Allowance (AUE) will be concerned in the collection whose DNI ends on 7 (23 February).

Finally, those who perceive unemployment with a DNI ending in 0 and 1 also perceive that day.
