A new deluge aggravated the situation and spread the affected areas on Monday night. Residents of the northwestern suburbs of Sydney are preparing to vacate their homes due to rising waters.

“As we reported yesterday, some 18,000 people have been evacuated and, unfortunately, we have warned another 15,000 that they may have to be evicted.”said New South Wales Prime Minister Gladys Berejiklian.

There is no record of deaths or serious injuries.

Australian defense forces will join relief operations on Tuesday, the government announced, specifying that two helicopters will help transport the people stranded in remote areas.

“Unfortunately, this situation is far from over.” The Meteorological Office warned in a tweet, when half of New South Wales is on alert.

On Monday eight million residents were asked to avoid unnecessary travel and telecommute whenever possible. Some areas received 250mm of rainfall in 24 hours.

The contrast is striking to late 2019, when this region suffered unprecedented wildfires and water restrictions due to a long period of drought.

The emergency services have received more than 10,000 calls for help and have carried out some 850 rescue operations.

The researchers anticipate that Australia face extreme weather events due to global warming.
