The Venezuelan army has dismantled a camp in the state of Bolívar (south, bordering Brazil) belonging to a criminal gang dedicated to illegal mining, the Strategic Operational Commander of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB) reported on Wednesday. The army released the information in a message on its Twitter account, in which it assured that the camp belonged to “the criminal gang calling itself ‘El Ciego'”.

He explained that, on the site, “two vehicles, three rafts, six engines, six power plants, 26 hydropneumatic pumps, 2,000 meters of hose, 2,000 liters of fuel” were out of service, in addition to “other logistical materials”. .

Last Monday, military officials disabled 43 camps that were also being used by irregular groups for illegal mining in the country’s natural parks.

Hernández Lárez then recalled that mining activities in natural parks “violate all constitutional regulations regarding environmental protection, land use planning and the duties of citizens”.

These operations, which also left an undetermined number of detainees, are part of the so-called Bolivarian Shield Operation Autana 2023, which aims to guarantee the “protection of the environment” and to combat illegal mining. in natural parks, forests and forest reserves.
