Argentina registered a trade deficit of $364 million in December, accumulating a positive result of $ 12,528 million in 2020, the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses said on Tuesday.

The result was worse than expected by analysts: a poll conducted by Reuters estimated an average positive difference of 505 million dollars for the December ICA.

In the last month of the year, exports totaled 3,544 million dollars, with a year-on-year decrease of 34.1%, and imports reached 3,908 million dollars, which represented a 24.7% improvement.

In December 2019, the ICA showed a surplus of 2,241 million dollars and throughout 2019 it showed a positive balance of 15,990 million dollars.

The third largest economy in Latin America is heading into its third year of economic contraction, with high inflation and a sharp increase in poverty, as a result of the worsening crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
