CHARLOTTE, NC (AP) — The Panthers are in a hurry.

Carolina made a trade of draft picks, in order to get the first overall, ceded by the New York Bears, in exchange for the ninth and 61st that the Panthers had for this 2023, a first round for 2024, a player of second baseman for 2025 and star receiver DJ Moore, two people linked to the deal said Friday.

The sources spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the exchange was not announced. That would happen on Wednesday, when the NFL free agent signing period begins.

The transaction allows the Panthers to acquire a potential franchise quarterback. For years, they’ve wanted to have such a player, although it’s unclear who they would go for.

The Bears are tied to Justin Fields, a quarterback they were so confident of sacrificing their No. 1 pick.
