The land is on the Miami River, very close to Brickell Avenue

Over the past year and a half, the construction group Related (from Argentinian-Cuban Jorge Perez) worked on land on the Miami River in the area of Brickell. And there, a surprise interrupted the work of real estate developers.

Excavation found pieces of tools prehistoric, remains of ancient animals and plants; Over time, these discoveries have been regularly joined by those of human remains and remnants of ancient structures, dating back to the dawn of civilization. The land is located on the south bank of the Miami River, just west of the bridge that crosses the river at Brickell Avenue. First impressions promise a huge deposit of archaeological treasures.

According to expert reports viewed by the local press, there are artefacts that date back 7,000 years and indicate that an important indigenous civilization inhabited the area.

Those connoisseurs of the Miami terrain weren’t too surprised by this discovery, as there are records of archaeological treasures in the area. For at least the past 25 years, discoveries of this type have been made in the Brickell area and downtown Miami, where one of the buildings had to change its plans to respect a sacred circle of a bygone civilization that experts say dates back at least 2,000 years.

“It’s about going back to the time of the first cities of the Mesopotamia. They are thousands of years before the republic and the empire in Rome. Whatever rod is used, these are the traces of the first manifestations of human activity. It’s something legitimately old,” he told local media. Although the excavations are not complete, the discoveries are already changing the way experts viewed human activity in the area until now. The river has always been known to be the birthplace of Miami, both of new Miami and past civilizations, but these discoveries can elevate the level of knowledge about history.

Related bought the land in 2013 for $104 million and secured a $164 million loan in 2022 to build an apartment tower that will be used for leasing. It is likely, as has happened before, that the results will force a change in the design out of respect for what may appear.

The City of Miami has a person in charge of monitoring archaeological finds at this site who works alongside scientists hired by developers in the area.
