MEXICO CITY (AP) — Argentina’s Leonardo Suárez and Chile’s Diego Valdés each scored a goal on Sunday as America extended their unbeaten streak by beating Tijuana 2-1 for their third consecutive victory in the Clausura tournament in Mexico.

Suárez rocked the net after 40 minutes with a free kick and Valdés took advantage of a superb pass from Henry Martín to make it 51.

With their three straight wins, the Eagles have 16 points with which they are in third position.

Besides the Azulcremas, only the Tigres do not know defeat in the Clausura tournament.

In addition, America led by Argentinian Fernando Ortiz now has 18 consecutive games without defeat at the Azteca stadium, where it has not fallen since February 20, when it succumbed to Pachuca.

Argentina’s Alejandro Martínez discounted to 81 for Tijuana, who suffered the second consecutive defeat under new coach Miguel Herrera and remain with seven points, in 14th position in the championship.

The Xolos ended the match with 10 players due to the dismissal of Misael Domínguez, after 69 minutes.

América dominated the game from the initial whistle, but couldn’t reflect it on the scoreboard until Suárez fired a free kick which entered goalkeeper José Antonio Rodríguez’s right post, which is remained static.

At the start of the second half, in a quick transition, Martín took the ball on the right wing and sent a pass from the penalty area where Valdés arrived to convert with a smooth, well-placed shot.

Towards the end, Martínez took a ball from the periphery of the area and converted with a shot into the right corner of goalkeeper Óscar Jiménez.

TOLUCA COLLECTED A DEBT BEFORE PACHUCA

Thanks to Brazilian Camilo Sanvezzo in stoppage time, Toluca beat defending champions Pachuca 2-1 in the replay of the last Mexican final.

Edgar López gave the Red Devils the lead after 11 minutes, but Javier “Chofis” López managed to equalize at 79 and Sanvezzo scored the winning goal at 92.

With the result, Toluca now have 12 points, which puts them in sixth position after the first eight rounds.

The Red Devils could improve this site as they have a match pending against Santos which will be played midweek.

The Tuzos saw a five-game unbeaten streak snapped and racked up 16 points with which they slipped to fourth place.

MAZATLÁN STILL UNABLE TO WIN

Thanks to a goal from Colombian Nicolás Benedetti early in the second half, Mazatlán salvaged a 1-1 draw against Querétaro to add their first point of the tournament, but remain bottom of the standings.

Colombian José Zúñiga scored his first Liga MX goal at 37 minutes, but Benedetti declared the tie with a goal at 49.

With the result, the Cañoneros have a point and are last among the 18 teams in the first division.

The White Roosters have accumulated four units and are penultimate.
