The former president of Paraguay Fernando Lugo He was released on Monday from a clinic in Argentina, where he continues his rehabilitation process after the stroke (ACV) who suffered in August last year and is expected to return to his country soon, opposition leaders reported on Monday.
“Today is a great day! Dear comrade Fernando Lugo has just received a medical discharge that will allow him to return to Paraguay,” the senator wrote on his Twitter account. Miguel “Kencho” Rodriguezof the Guasu Front, the alliance of left-wing movements led by Lugo.
Rodríguez added in his trill that they would soon be expecting Lugo in his native Paraguay.
Talking on the radio Monumentalthe legislator estimated that “in 15, 20 days” Lugo will be back in the country, although he specified that his transfer is “subject to a medical evaluation”.
In addition, he assured that “adaptation works” are underway in the house of the former sovereign so that he can continue his rehabilitation work.
Rodríguez was seated next to Lugo last Thursday when he participated virtually from the clinic in the province of Buenos Aires in the first session of the year of the Paraguayan Senate.
The announcement of Lugo’s medical team’s decision was also shared on Twitter by the opposition candidate Ephraim Alegrewho published this Monday to have visited the progressive senator in the neighboring country.
“We talked about the challenges and the hope for change. We participated in the wonderful news of his medical leave. He will return to his homeland, with the mission of uniting, adding and strengthening all the democratic forces of the Coalition,” he added, referring to the coalition made up of opposition movements and parties facing in the elections next April.
Lugo, 71 years old, leads the list of candidates for the Senate by the Grand Front-Négociation for the general elections.
The former leader (2008-2012) suffered a stroke in August 2022 associated with hemorrhage due to a congenital arteriovenous malformation. He was transferred on September 7 to Argentina for his rehabilitation.
