The bodies of at least three people were seen in the crowd outside the Kabul airport, television images showed on Saturday, when thousands of afghans desperately trying to flee the Taliban regime in a chaotic evacuation.
Images from the British network Sky News show the soldiers covering three bodies with white cloth. It is unclear what they died of.
Sky reporter Stuart Ramsay, who was at the airport, said people in the front row are being “crushed” and that doctors are running from victim to victim. The chain also showed several injuries.
Ramsay explained that people are “dehydrated and terrified.” Other images show soldiers pointing a hose at the crowd, claiming they were using “anything to cool them off.”
Kabul airport has seen scenes of despair since the Taliban took control of the capital on August 15. Tens of thousands of Afghans wait in full sun for hours and even days for their eventual evacuation.
