“The parasites ate my eye”was the explanation of Mike Krumholz, a 21-year-old American whose case is special. It’s that he slept one 40 minute nap and when he woke up he was blind.
The case went viral on TikTok, where Mike himself shared a video in which he explained that he fell asleep with contact lenses. When he got up, he noticed that his eye was red and, at first, he thought it was conjunctivitis; however, her story became chilling.
“I was treated for a whole month for the (herpes) virus. I got tired of hearing ‘it’s just a very stubborn virus, but it’s going to go away,’” he said.
In this sense, he reports having undergone several treatments and points out that his eye is not improving and the pain is increasing. “I received a call in which they told me that I had Acanthamoeba keratitissays the young man.

Meanwhile, Mike added: “The student is covered. I don’t have any at the moment. This is because the cornea is very cloudy and the amoeba has eaten a lot of it.”
Currently, the 21-year-old is expecting a cornea transplant, with which he hopes to recover part of his vision and reduce the pain.
