After 3 o’clock in the afternoon of Sunday February 26, it was learned that a woman had given birth in the middle of the Transmilenio system. The delivery took place inside the south portal and was attended by a nurse who works at the aid station inside the place and several coexistence managers.

Through its Twitter account, TransMilenio announced that the delivery was successful and the baby was born without complications. Likewise, the nurse who took care of the case explained that a few minutes after noon they reported to her “the case of a girl who is on platform two and who was in labor”. For their part, the hosts took care of providing her with a wheelchair and, later, they took her to platform one, where the infirmary is located.

“They get into the wheelchair and — the patient — reports a lot of pain, a lot of discomfort. We put her on the stretcher and she is already starting her work,” nurse Luz Dary Boada described of the procedure performed on the system user. Moments later, they contacted the Department of Health to report the case.

A total of three women attended the delivery: Boada and two cohabitation workers from the system; The nurse even confessed that it was the first time she had faced such a situation. “Everything was very natural, I had never given birth and it scared me a bit, but it was a great team effort,” she said.

It should be mentioned that in the nine portals and some of its major stations, TransMielnio has a point of care and nursing, which are available 18 hours a day to respond to any emergency that arises in these places. Luz Dary Boada was precisely in the south portal and thanks to his quick action the delivery took place without complications.

“Sometimes people don’t know why all of a sudden we’re not visibly inside the portal, but there’s a first aid point they can go to if they suddenly feel sick… We’re practically 18 hours inside the portal,” the medical professional said. . . By the way, he clarified that the schedule is divided into three six-hour shifts with a different nurse.

It should be mentioned that a case that has become well known occurred in 2021, when in April a woman gave birth on a SITP bus and the driver had to witness the birth. Roldán Villanueva, driver of a TransMilenio loader connected to the SITP system, noticed the advanced state of labor presented by one of his passengers and immediately helped her give birth to her child in the middle of a service vehicle audience.

Villanueva, who traveled a route in the city of Usaquén —north of Bogotá—, was interviewed by Snail News for said action. According to this report, the pregnant woman entered the bus around 2:30 a.m. Friday, shortly after asking for immediate help. “I opened it because I saw her pregnant. She climbed on top of me and when I saw her spitting blood, I said, “No, woman. It’s time to receive the child’”voiced the conductor of the medium.

The woman, lying in the hallway, was spotted by the official through the rear view mirror. After determining that he should help her, The man stopped his vehicle on Carrera 7 with Calle 183. According to the driver, he used the first aid training he receives at work.
