Guatemala, March 3. Municipal, of Paraguayan coach José Saturnino Cardozo, will face Communicaciones, of Uruguayan Willy Coito, in the Guatemalan classic on Saturday for the eleventh day of the Clausura tournament.
Cardozo will not be on the bench for the clásico 325 because he was sent off during his trip to Antigua, when the Municipal lost 2-1 last Wednesday.
Municipal had an erratic start to the tournament with just four wins and is currently in fourth place with 15 points.
For their part, their biggest rival, Comunicaciones, are third in the table with 20 points and are the only team in the tournament undefeated.
In the classic past between the Central American country’s two most popular clubs, both with 31 crowns, Comunicaciones, led by Uruguayan Willy Coito, won 3-2 away in October 2022.
In another Matchday 11 fixture, current leader Xelajú will host second-placed Guastatoya at home and could take the lead if they win.
In addition, Mixco will play at home against Santa Lucia in a duel between two teams fighting for their permanence in the highest category of Guatemalan football.
On Sunday, Paraguayan goalkeeper Marcelo Ferreira’s Iztapa will host Achuapa and Xinabajul will take on Antigua, current runners-up from Guatemala.
At the end of the day, Cobán, the current champion, will try to claim his second victory of the tournament against Malacateco, led by Mexican coach Adrián García Arias.
