Based on the investigation carried out, Monzón was arrested and in prison he collapsed and confessed to the crime. So much so that a few days later, the security forces found the body of the victim. During the trial, the defendant not only admitted the facts, but also maintained that he had acted in self-defense and stated that he had dismembered the body due to the “fear” caused to him by the issue.

“He got dressed and told me he was going out. I refused him. There she brought a knife, started threatening me, attacked me, and I twisted her arm. In the struggle, he falls and I see the knife stuck in his chest. I was afraid. I got rid of the body and pretended she was gone,” was his statement released in 2015, weeks after his arrest, read and signed off by the defendant on the first day of the trial.
