A young man was arrested with 68 doses of different drugs in the Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC) an electronic music festival that took place at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. Among the substances seized were marijuana, crystal, LSD, cocaine and popper.

During the first night of the festival, authorities detected a suspect near the northern tube area of ​​the stage. When the boy noticed the officers staring, he tried to leave; however, he was caught and forced to undergo an examination.

There were about 20 blue pills, 14 small packets of white powder (presumably filled with cocaine), 14 marijuana cigarettes, packets of crystalsand a small jar of poppers. Similarly, two cell phones were confiscated, one from Samsung and the other from Apple.

They were elements of the Industrial Banking Policy (PBI)belonging to the Citizen Security Secretariat (SSC) those who performed the operation. Subsequently, the 22-year-old was taken to the Public Prosecutor’s Office (MP) to have his case and legal situation resolved.

It is not the first time that arrests have taken place within the framework of the said music festival, since during last year’s edition, the police arrested a man and a woman of Chinese nationality for possession of drugs and cash.

Similarly, in 2020, 7 people were arrested with up to 192 doses of drugs. In the same way, the arrest of pickpockets is a constant of the Electric Daisy Carnival festivals at the Hermanos Rodríguez autodrome located in Mexico City.

Drug use at festivals like EDC is not a foreign phenomenon, as the world of electronic music is linked to the use of mind-altering drugs.

On the first night of the Electric Daisy Carnival, musicians such as Bizarrap (recently viral for his collaboration with Colombian band Shakirain which they alluded to former Barcelona player Gerard Pique), Martin Garrix, Marshmello and Uzielito Mix.

The Government of Mexico, through the National Commission against Drug Addiction, makes available to the Mexican population Lifeline, a citizen service center that operates 24 hours a day, 356 days a year. It offers personalized attention to people with problems related to substance use and mental health.

La Línea de la Vida also offers care to relatives of people with drug addiction problems.

Among the items that were removed at the entrance to the festival were cigarettes, electronic vaporizers and alcoholic beverages. On social networks, users said that with these measures it is easier to enter drugs than cigarettes and vapes.

Confronted with the mainstream culture of drug use at the Electric Daisy Carnival, people on social media wrote things like, “I guess if you don’t get high at EDC, it’s like you don’t. wasn’t” and “I’m sick of pretending I like EDC, pinch* horrible festival with horrible people, nothing else is passable with drugs”.

The official Electric Daisy Carnival Twitter account posted, “Yesterday was a dream! The love and energy of our headliners lit up the electric skies like never before. See you soon”, and “Go home safely and rest… See you tomorrow for round 2!”.

To date, this is the only reported case of arrest for drug-related offenses within the framework of the 2023 Festival, which will celebrate its second night today, February 25, with the presence of the musicians Deorro, Tiësto and Mandragora .
