An earthquake of magnitude 6.4 was registered on Monday in the province of Hatay, in southern Turkey, most affected by the earthquake of February 6, which left more than 41,000 dead in the country, the disaster response agency AFAD reported.

The earthquake shook the city of Bay at 8:04 p.m. (5:04 p.m. GMT) and was strongly felt by the teams of the press agency AFP in Antakya and Adana, 200 kilometers to the north.

No data is yet available on any further damage or casualties, but many journalists in Antioquia reported that the tremor caused panic among survivors staying in tents.

A journalist from AFP added that the new tremors raised clouds of dust in the devastated city.

At least one already half-collapsed building has collapsed entirely and debris from others has damaged parked cars, the channel reports NTV.

Ahmet Ovgun Ercana prestigious geophysicist from the Istanbul Technical University, assured the HalkTV channel that this earthquake, which he estimated at 17 seconds, is a normal phenomenon and anticipated that some buildings already damaged would have collapsed.

According to AFAD, more than 6,000 replicas since the magnitude earthquake 7.8 shook Turkey and Syria.

Since the earthquake of the 6th, none of the buildings in Antioquia are still habitable, but there are debris removal equipment which may have been trapped by an overhang.

Additionally, many survivors have a habit of congregating around campfires in front of collapsed buildings to aid in the identification of bodies, and may be in danger if a nearby surviving building collapses.

It was terrible, broken windows fell on us. Everyone left the stores in a panic. With darkness you still can’t see what happened,” he told the news agency. EFE Ugur Sahin, daily reporter A day.

The national emergency center AFAD, which locates the epicenter of the earthquake in the district of Defne in Antioquia itself, speaks of a second replica of magnitude 5.8 with epicenter in samandag.
