Recently making a lot of noise on Steam after the Early Access launch, Valheim is on the tip of the tongue of most PC gamers. However, since it is exclusive to PC at the moment, many potential gamers may not be very comfortable with the keyboard and mouse controls.

If you’d rather play with a controller, here’s everything you need to know Valheim Controller Support.

Is there controller support in Valheim?

If you want to play Valheim but don’t want to use a keyboard and mouse, you’ll be happy to know that it isn’t necessary. There is support for controllers in the game, but they are not as comprehensive as you would like.

According to Valheim’s Steam page, the game offers “partial controller support.” That said, there haven’t been as many reports of players dealing with this. Some folks have reported issues with connecting DualSense controllers, but the issues seem to be limited anyway.

The only limitations seem to be more on the bugs side, or the fact that the game is in Early Access on Steam, rather than oversights. For example, some players on Reddit report that “the button assignments can’t really be changed. You can change them to something else, but they seem to keep the original mapping AND the new mapping.”

Issues like this and inconsistencies with things like removing items or deconstructing items will likely be addressed as the game continues on its way to full release.

In general, you shouldn’t have a lot of trouble playing Valheim with a controller. Controller support is generally pretty good, although it’s not the same experience as playing keyboard and mouse games.

That’s all you need to know about Valheim Controller Support.
