When Elon Musk wanted to sell Tesla to Apple, he wanted to become CEO of Apple at the same time
The tech world is actually quite small. Managers make many movements, from one company to another, very frequently. It can happen, however, that certain appointments create a surprise. Or some wishes, simply. Did you know for example that Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla in particular, once wanted to be the boss of apple ?
When Elon Musk wanted to sell Tesla to Apple
As some may have already heard, the CEO of Tesla once attempted to sell his business to Apple. The information was revealed in Elon Musk’s biography. It revealed that then Apple boss Tim Cook was not at all interested in the project, and the man hadn’t even bothered to attend the date. But you don’t know the whole story.
The latter wanted to become CEO of Apple at the same time
According to Tim Higgins, in an article in the Wall Street Journal, we learn in his book “Power Play: Tesla, Elon Musk and the Bet of the Century” that one of the conditions of the sale of Tesla to Apple was that he himself becomes CEO of Apple.
The book goes that Elon Musk allegedly told Tim Cook, “I am CEO,” which Tim Cook understood to mean that Elon Musk would remain CEO of Tesla.
And Tim Cook reportedly replied to Elon Musk that he was not against the idea. The whimsical Tesla boss then immediately clarified his position by stating that he wanted to be CEO of Apple.
Tim Cook then said a few carefully chosen words before hanging up the phone. A story to say the least entertaining, but the veracity of which remains questionable. Indeed, Elon Musk responded to this revelation by claiming to have never spoken or written with Tim Cook.
Elon Musk maintains, however, that he requested an interview with Tim Cook, which was refused. Regarding the boss of Apple, in an interview dating from a few months ago, the latter claims to have never spoken to Elon Musk but has “great admiration and deep respect” for Tesla.
