WhatsApp, and Facebook created a lively controversy by announcing a modification of the conditions of use, in particular with regard to personal data.

If you follow tech news a bit, you probably know that WhatsApp wants to change its terms of use to allow itself more freedom with regard to certain personal data. A decision that created a lively controversy. We can then ask ourselves what would happen if we refuse these new conditions.

What happens if we do not accept the new WhatsApp conditions?

As you may know, WhatsApp still intends to implement its new personal data management policy next May. Some then wondered what would happen if we refused to accept these new terms of use after their implementation. And the answer is quite logical: nothing good.

It’s still quite vague, but the experience will be greatly degraded

Indeed, if we are to believe a post on the WhatsApp FAQ page, it would seem that by refusing to accept these changes, your user experience is severely reduced.

WhatsApp says it has postponed the implementation of these new privacy rules to give users more time to fully understand the scope of these changes, but says if users do not agree to these new terms, then the application will be affected.

The text states in particular: “If you have not accepted the terms by then, WhatsApp will not delete your account. However, you won’t be able to take full advantage of WhatsApp until you do so. For a short time you will still be able to receive calls and notifications but you will not be able to read or send messages from the app.”

It is interesting to note the “for a short time”. This raises some questions. What will happen after the end of this period for users who still haven’t accepted?

Will the platform outright prevent using the app? Will the account be deleted? The future will tell. There doesn’t seem to be a lot of options anyway: either accept these new terms or find another app for all your instant messaging.
