Walmart is launching a new tool for consumers that consists of taking a photograph of a product, which when uploaded to the system searches for the same or a similar item in the retailer’s inventory

Walmart announced on its website that it has made “Trend Getter” available to consumers, a tool in which the buyer can upload a photograph of a desired item and the system searches for the same or similar inventory.

“We have all been there. You’re scrolling through your Instagram feed and your favorite influencer is wearing the season’s must-have accessory. Or you’re watching the latest viral TikTok video and you find a home decor,” Walmart’s statement said.

And that’s where “TrendGetter” starts working. Using image recognition technology, the tool makes it easy for customers to find those or similar products at the retailer’s prices, which can help them make better purchasing decisions.

How does it work:

– The user must visit TrendGetter.com.
– Once in the system, the buyer simply has to take a photo of an item they like or upload a stored image from their device.
– “TrendGetter” goes to work and searches Walmart.com inventory for similar items.
– Once the article or a similar one has been found, the user selects it and, if he so decides, he can make the purchase in a practical way.

“TrendGetter” uses Google’s Vision image recognition technology to help customers find the products they want from Walmart’s catalog of items.

Once a photo is uploaded, the tool will retrieve the same or similar items that can be purchased at Walmart.com. The possibilities vary from the department of fashion, technology, toys or decoration.

TrendGetter only uses photos that are uploaded for visual search in the product catalog and then deletes them.
