Xiaomi has just lifted the veil on the Mi Mix Fold, its first smartphone with a foldable screen, at a conference in China. Very similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 2, the terminal can be converted into a small tablet. On the back, there is a screen intended to display contextual information.
After months of teasing, Xiaomi announced its first foldable smartphone , the Mi Mix Fold. Like Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 2 or Huawei’s Mate X2, the Chinese firm relies on a design that folds inward. This choice makes it possible to protect the slab when the structure is folded up.
The Mi Mix Fold’s AMOLED display measures 8.01 inches (2480 × 1869 pixels) when unfolded. Note that the touch screen is not marked with a notch or a hole. The brand did not specify where the front camera is housed. We imagine that the photo sensor for selfies could be hidden in a border or under the screen.

The foldable display is WQHD +, HDR10 + and DolbyVision compatible. Xiaomi points out that the screen is larger than that of Samsung’s Z Fold 2 and that of Apple’s iPad Mini. During the conference, Lei Jun, CEO of Xiaomi, assured that the central hinge can be bent a million times . On the back, there is a 6.52-inch screen for displaying notifications (SMS, emails, etc.) and contextual information (weather forecast, battery, etc.).
Xiaomi entrusts the autonomy to a 5020 mAh battery compatible with 67W fast charging . Performance is ensured by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888. To improve the photos, Xiaomi integrates a Surge C1 chip developed by it. This is a chip dedicated solely to image processing. The back camera is distinguished by the presence of a liquid lens that is supposed to mimic the functioning of the human eye . In detail, Xiaomi integrates a 108 megapixel lens, a 13 megapixel ultra wide-angle and an 8 megapixel telephoto module with x3 optical zoom.
On the software side, Xiaomi adds a PC mode for professional users. This mode allows you to use the Mi Mix Fold as a computer. In particular, it is possible to display two applications next to each other. Finally, the brand incorporates 4 speakers designed by Harman Kardon.
A STARTING PRICE OF 1300 EUROS
Xiaomi will market the Mi Mix Fold at a starting price of around 1,300 euros in China . Here is the price list in force in China:
- Mi Mix Fold 12 GB of RAM / 256 GB of storage: 9,999 yuan, or 1,300 euros excluding tax
- Mi Mix Fold 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage: 10,999 yuan, or 1,400 euros excluding tax
Xiaomi also offers a special ultra high-end ceramic edition with 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage. This premium edition will be offered at a price of around 12,999 yuan (€ 1,700 excl. Tax) on the Chinese market. To pass the pill, Xiaomi offers a premium customer service reserved for users of Mi Mix Fold. This customer service allows you to change the screen free of charge and to obtain advice.
