Baker Mayfield is officially the starting quarterback for the Carolina Panthers.
On Monday, the team made the formal announcement, though it was apparently apparent from the start that Mayfield would be the starter once he was acquired from Cleveland. As for last year’s starter, Sam Darnold, he’s saying all the right things…for now. “Obviously, it didn’t work out for me. The coach named Baker as the starter. My mindset is that it is what it is. For me, right now, I’m going to do everything I can to support Baker and get him ready to play a game.” The Panthers host Mayfield’s former team, the Browns, in Week 1.
