The Serbian tennis player congratulated the Spaniard for his “wonderful” victory this Sunday, January 30, 2022 at the Australian Open. “Congratulations to Rafael Nadal for his 21st Grand Slam.
A wonderful achievement, ”wrote Djokovic on his Twitter profile, who was unable to participate in the tournament and defend the title because he had not been vaccinated against Covid-19. The Serbian tennis player, number one in the world ranking, stressed that Nadal showed “ an impressive fighting spirit , which has prevailed again”, and also congratulated him in Spanish: “Congratulations”.
He noted that Nadal’s opponent in the final, Russia’s Daniil Medvedev, “gave his all” and “played with the passion and determination expected of him.”
Djokovic traveled to Australia at the beginning of the month, but because he had not been vaccinated against Covid-19, the Australian authorities denied him entry and he was finally deported on January 16, a day before the start of the tournament.
There has been some outstanding tennis played at this year’s #AusOpen and the finals were exceptional. Congratulations to @ashbarty for an amazing performance in front of her home crowd and to Danielle Collins for an incredible tournament. pic.twitter.com/qM3pcDnAeL
