The great season of Tadej Pogacar has had a last recognition for the Slovenian cyclist of the UAE Emirates in this 2021, since Pogacar has been awarded with the Vélo d’Or, the Golden Bicycle, the award with which Vélo Magazine recognizes the best cyclist of the season.
Pogacar’s achievements to win the award have been more than outstanding. ANDhis season Pogacar has added a total of 13 victories between stages and general, the one that has achieved the most triumphs together with Roglic and Van Aert, among which his triumph in the general of the Tour de France, where he also won three stages, the UAE Tour or Tirreno-Adriatico among other races and two of the five monuments on the calendar: Liege-Bastoña-Liege and Giro de Lombardia.
Pogacar has prevailed in the vote precisely the two cyclists who, together with him, have achieved 13 victories this season: his compatriot Primoz Roglic, winner of La Vuelta, where he also won four stages, and Olympic gold time trial at the Tokyo Games; and el belga Wout Van Aert, winner of the Ghent-Wevelgem, Amstel Gold Race, of three stages in the Tour de France and of four stages and the general in the Tour of Great Britain, as well as being silver in the road event of the Olympic Games and in the time trial of the World Cup.
In this way, Pogacar succeeds his compatriot Primoz Roglic in the Vélo d’Or track record in a trophy that has been won by prominent runners such as Alberto Contador.
