Teenage substitute Cristian Volpato scored one goal and assisted another as Roma beat 10-man Hellas Verona 3-1 in Serie A on Monday.
The 18-year-old Volpato gave his team the lead with two minutes remaining and set up Stephan El Shaarawy in added time as Roma moved past Lazio in fourth place ahead of next weekend’s Madrid derby. .
Verona defender Paweł Dawidowicz opened the scoring, but he was sent off after 36 minutes. Nicolò Zaniolo equalized shortly before half time.
Verona remains three points above the relegation zone.
Monza faces Bologna in the last match of the day and the first since defender Pablo Marí was stabbed in an attack in a Milan supermarket.
Marí, who is on loan from Arsenal, was released from hospital on Sunday after undergoing surgery. Luis Fernando Ruggieri, a supermarket employee, was killed in Thursday’s attack and there was a minute’s silence in tribute before the match.
