According to the latest reports, Soto underwent an MRI last Tuesday, March 21 to evaluate his left oblique after he felt discomfort while practicing at the Padres’ complex on Sunday, March 19. The test results showed that the strain is “minimal”, according to manager Bob Melvin, so the manager hopes that, after a few days of rest, Juan José will be able to swing again in the next few days to get ready for the Opening Game on March 30.
“There’s no significant oblique inflammation,” Melvin said. “We’ll see how it feels tomorrow and maybe we’ll have a bat in hand in the next few days.”

The plan of the Padres’ coaching staff is for Soto to be able to resume practice and take a few more turns in the Cactus League, which ends next week.
