Karim Benzema wins the Ballon d’Or: the Frenchman from Real Madrid proclaims himself the best in the world

Karim Benzema had a great season in which he led Real Madrid to win their 14th Champions League, as well as the Spanish La Liga

Not surprisingly for football fans around the world, French striker Karim Benzema was announced as the winner of the prestigious Ballon d’Or award.

The player -and current captain- of Real Madrid did enough merit in a season in which he won the UEFA Champions League (UCL) number 14 for the meringues.

‘Gato’ Benzema’s numbers in the 2021-2022 season were unbeatable, the best of his career. In total there were 44 goals and 15 assists in 46 commitments (including clashes with France), not counting so far this season, which so far has 5 goals, including a key one to win the Clásico de España last weekend against FC Barcelona .

Benzema is within the historical statistics of Real Madrid. He is currently the second highest scorer in history, with more than 300 goals and behind Cristiano Ronaldo; he is also the foreign player with the most matches played with the Spanish club after surpassing the mark of another historic player: Roberto Carlos.
