With this renewal, Moriyasu will become the first Japanese coach to lead that team in two World Cups in a row.

This Wednesday the Japan Football Association announced the renewal of the contract of coach Hajime Moriyasu until the next World Cup in 2026, to be held in Mexico, the United States and Canada.

The information was conveyed by the association’s president, Kojo Tajima, during a press conference, in which he praised the coach’s work during the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

With this renewal, Moriyasu will become the first Japanese coach to lead that team in two consecutive World Cups.

Moriyasu led Japan to the round of 16 at Qatar 2022, after competing in the group stage against Spain, Germany and Costa Rica.

Finally, the Japanese team was eliminated in the round of 16 by the Croatian team, but the performance of the Japanese was remarkable and that is why they decided to renew it.
