Diego Armando Montiel hospitalized on Saturday for a devastating picture.
Sad news for Argentine soccer. Diego Armando Montiel , a 25-year-old ex-footballer who came to play in Atlético de Rafaela’s first game , died this Sunday affected by a picture of fulminant meningitis.
Montiel had been admitted on Saturday to the intensive therapy room of the San Juan Bautista hospital in Santo Tomé, his hometown. He did not manage to overcome a table that was too advanced.

In the club’s networks they confirmed the death of the former footballer. “ From Atlético de Rafaela we regret the death of Diego Armando Montiel , who defended our shirt in the Lower Divisions and the First Division. We wish a speedy resignation for his family and we raise our prayers for his eternal rest ”, they said.

His father had named him Diego Armando in honor of Maradona, his idol. He worked as a right-wing midfielder and made his debut in Atlético de Rafaela’s first in the 2014 Transitional Tournament.
In that championship he scored his only goal against River with that shirt : he took a tremendous shot from outside the area, unavailable for Marcelo Barovero.
Montiel also played for Juventud Unida de Gualeguaychú and Bragado FC. In the last two years he had withdrawn from professional activity.
