New York, Aug 27 –  An anti-vaccine group has called a protest next to the facilities of the United States Tennis Open in New York, in solidarity with the Serbian Novak Djokovic who resigned from participating in the tournament when he could not access to the country for not complying with the coronavirus vaccination requirement.

It is about “Teachers for Choice” (Teachers for the election), a group of educators that has participated in numerous protests in New York against the vaccination mandate imposed by local authorities on public officials.

The protest, called under the slogan “That the travel vaccination requirement be ended” is scheduled for next Monday at 9:30 in the morning.

“Sadly, this time I won’t be able to travel to NY for the US Open. Thank you #NoleFam for your messages of love and support. Good luck to the other players! I’ll stay in good shape and positive frame of mind and look forward to a opportunity to compete again. See you soon world of tennis!”, The tennis player wrote on his Twitter account two days ago.

Djokovic, a three-time champion in New York and a finalist last year, has not been able to play the 2022 American tour, both at the opening and at the end of the season, due to his refusal to be vaccinated.

The Serbian, winner of 21 ‘majors’, could not play the last Australian Open either for the same reason.
