A screen without notch, a flush photo module … what’s new for the iPhone 14.

The iPhone 13 was made official last September and is experiencing some shipping delays, but it’s never too early to look at its successor, the iPhone 14 (or whatever its name is).

We don’t know much about the features or even the price of the next iPhone, but there are a number of rumors floating around about the design. If they are correct, they paint the picture of an iPhone in need of a major overhaul.

Bye-bye the notch?

This rumor has persisted for years, Apple could finally remove the notch from its iPhone. According to Ming Chi Kuo, the American firm will opt for a punched screen on the Pro models. A feature that can be found on most Android smartphones like the Galaxy S21 Ultra or the Galaxy Z Flip 3 .

Currently, the notch houses the components that make the Face ID system work, which means Apple could replace that technology. Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman hinted at its removal, also anticipating a “  complete overhaul  ” of the iPhone.

A stronger and lighter chassis?

Speaking of the iPhone chassis, Jon Prosser also said that the iPhone 14 Pro may receive a titanium alloy body for the first time. This rumor was first mentioned in a report released in July by the Chinese office of JP Morgan Chase. Apple has already used the titanium alloy in some Apple Watch models, most notably the Series 7. The titanium alloy rivals steel in terms of strength, while being less heavy. Titanium is also more resistant to scratches, corrosion and bending.

A flush photo module?

Another feature that would be on Apple’s priority list is the integration of the photo module.

The iPhone has been home to a protruding photo module for several generations, but that might change with the iPhone 14. According to blogger Jon Prosser, this iPhone will have a fully integrated photo module, which could mean a thicker chassis to accommodate the photos. different components. By the way, this will perhaps allow to add a slightly larger battery and therefore improve autonomy.

Will the iPhone 14 be folding?

Probably not. To be clear, we can’t say for sure that a folding iPhone will ever hit the market, but according to a report released by Bloomberg last January, Apple already has a working prototype. Other media outlets, including Taiwan’s Economic Daily, have announced that the folding iPhone will be released in 2022. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has revised his forecast for 2024 from 2023 previously.
