More than three years after having participated in the multi-award winning film Roma, directed by Alfonso Cuarón, Yalitza Aparicio is participating in a new project that will put her back on the big screen.
And it is that, who was a school teacher in his native Tlaxiaco, Oaxaca, changed her life forever when the Mexican director chose her to play “Cleo”, the babysitter who takes care of the children in the film that won Best Foreign Film at the annual awards ceremony Oscar, which honors the best in world cinematography.
After her launch to international fame, the fledgling actress ventured into fields other than educational teaching: she became vlogger, modeled elegant designer outfits for prestigious fashion magazines, paraded at important events in the world of entertainment, conducted award ceremonies and raised her voice as an activist for different social causes such as feminists and the fight for non-discrimination.
Even the magazine Time ranked it as the best performance of 2018, and in October 2019 it was included in the list of the BBC, as one of the 100 most influential women in the world, in addition to becoming a guest columnist for The New York Times.
Now images were disseminated on social networks that account for the new film adventure of the 27-year-old, who from the hand of director Luis Mandoki, the head of films such as You innocent Y Fraud: Mexico 2006, will return to the seventh art.
Aparicio is in the Michoacan municipality of Tlalpujahua filming the tape Presences, next to the actor Damián Alcázar, with whom, together with a production team, they are recording in the town famous for the manufacture of Christmas balls: “Access is excessively controlled”, is read in part of the message broadcast this Tuesday, March 9 in the Facebook of Tlalpujahua.
The actress began recording her participation in the film on March 8.
It transpired that the film will be a horror and suspense story, and Yalitza will be the protagonist of the story that tell what happens to a man who travels to town after the death of his wife and begins to live strange events in a cabin in the middle of the forest.
This was confirmed by the State Tourism Secretariat: “Under the direction of Mr. Luis Mandoki, the film is recorded Presences, where Yalitza Aparicio and Alberto Amann participate as protagonists, under the production of the also actress Cher Constantine, the genre of this film will be suspenseful and will show off the magnificent locations of the Magical Town of Tlalpujahua”, announcing that the recordings began on Monday, March 8, and are expected to last approximately one month.
A commotion was reported by the locals before the filming of the film.
Some aspects of the filming circulate on social networks, where Yalitza appears surrounded by the production team during the recordings in said municipality located 140 kilometers from the capital of Michoacán.
In one scene, the actress is seen wearing a plain white dress, surrounded by people from the staff who carry microphones and cameras, while she stands at the grocery store “La Toscana.”
The town is famous for its production of Christmas balls.
It transpired that initially the film would be shot in Pátzcuaro, but finally the production opted for the town, famous for its permanent production of spheres, which is why it is also known as “the place of eternal Christmas”.
At the moment, none of the actors or the direct has published information about the filming on their social networks, however, among the local population great expectation has been generated before the filming that takes place with sanitary measures such as the use of face masks and a relevant distance.
Director Luis Mandoki announced that it is a story with supernatural overtones.
It is not the only project on the actress’s door, as she recently collaborated with Netflix in the documentary series Peace Peace Now Now, which also has the participation of the Spanish Ester Expósito and which is close to being released.
