In an interview on the CBS Sunday Morning show, Penelope Cruz has defined her relationship with new technologies as “strange”. “I use them very little and in a very careful way.”
The actress, who maintains an Instagram profile with 6 million followers, has declared that she only uses social networks for professional purposes.
“There is something that does not make sense and it is especially affecting the younger generations. I feel really bad for those who are teenagers now. It’s like the world is doing some kind of experiment with them. ‘Oh, let’s see, what happens if you expose a 12-year-old to so much technology?'”
Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem have two children, 10-year-old Leo and 8-year-old Luna, whom they do not allow to have an account on social networks nor do they have a telephone.
And this measure will continue, according to the actors, until they turn 16. “I think this is protecting mental health, but I seem to be part of a minority”.
Regarding the overexposure of young people to social networks, Cruz has highlighted that there is a “lack of protection. There is no protection for them, for the brains that are still developing and how that affects the way they see themselves, like everything related to it, bullying, and so many things that are not the childhood we had,” she says.
