After having conflicts with Residente and Christian Nodal, J Balvin is now in the middle of a controversy with Shakira’s fans. This was due to a video that the reggaeton player posted on his Instagram account where he celebrates his country, Colombia, and the pride of being Colombian. The singer titled it “Proud as a hp to be Colombian,” and the video highlights various parts of Colombia—from its people, culture, nature, soccer team, and its great celebrities.

In the video, J Balvin says, “Colombia is not just any country, it is my country and only here do these things happen.” The singer talks about Sofia Vergara and her triumphs in Hollywood, the cyclist Mariana Pajón and her gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics, the talent of Karol G and her friendship with Maluma J Balvin also highlights the success of the telenovela ‘Betty La Fea’ and the new generation of artists.

He also says “the time we made a field goal from 2,500 kilometers from Medellin to the Superbowl” and shows a clip of him with Jennifer Lopez. Shakira shared the halftime presentation with JLO in 2020 and became the first Colombian to be part of the main act of this great event.

Not including Shakira angered her fans on social media. A follower @aklashito on Instagram commented, “Talk about Colombia and not mention Shakira? Yes, she has to be too envious”.

“You can’t hijack a show where you went as a guest, not as a lead,” tweeted user @andresguillen6_.

“Your argument makes no sense when you overlook the woman who transformed Colombia and paved the way for all of you in the music scene,” @JoelPrimo tweeted in response to the video.

Fans were so outraged by the video that they even released a promotional poster for Shakira’s “Sale el Sol World Tour” in 2011, where J Balvin was the opening act.

Until now, J Balvin has not reacted to the criticism and comments of this controversy.
