The last task of Jaime Ostos hours before dying

The evening before his death, Jaime Ostos still boasted of having the proper mettle to use the crutch. At ninety years old, he delighted a group of friends with his ballroom bullfighting.

No one could imagine that it would be the last time they would see him alive. That Friday night he went to bed calm, he was very tired after a busy day with his wife Mari Angeles and his friends. He fell asleep soundly without thinking that he was entering an eternal sleep from which he was not going to wake up.

Every year around this time, Jaime and his wife traveled to America to celebrate the Christmas holidays with a close friend, first in Miami and later in Cartagena de Indias.

As soon as we heard the tragic news, we tried to locate Mari Ángeles Grajal. Her voice on the other end of the phone line was accompanied by crying, the pain is immense, she has just lost the great love of her life.

“Thank you very much for your condolences, you can imagine how I feel, I’m down now I am waiting for a call from the Spanish consul. Excuse me, but I have to hang up on you. A kiss and thanks for calling.”

“We have known each other since his sentimental beginnings with Jaime, with whom I have been a good friend for many years. He was a man who boasted of being close friends with his friends, loyal to their affections and humble in face to face. Sometimes he lost his promises, and when he got angry he was fearsome, but in the moment of calm he did not hesitate to ask for forgiveness if he felt it was necessary.”

Jaime was a good man. Bullfighting and Mari Ángeles were the great passions of his life, and in his sentimental circle we only find three important stories, the one he had with his first wife, the Sevillian Consuelo Alcala, mother of two of her children, the long idyll with the South American to Lita Trujillo, an affair with another woman, Aurora Diaz, from which another daughter was born, and Mari Ángeles, mother of her son Jacobo.

He had a reputation for being a womanizer, and I’m sure I’m not lying if I say he was a born seducer, but not the style of those who are recounting their conquests.

The arrival of Mari Ángeles in his life marks a before and after in his existence. With her the disloyalty and the affairs ended. They joined their lives in 1987 and, although they suffered a serious crisis that led to their breakup, they reconciled perpetuating their love until the day of his death.
