The media fever surrounding Shakira, Gerard Piqué and their children since their separation is finally taking its toll on the Colombian singer. The singer made a desperate appeal on her social networks to journalists, media and paparazzi who for the past few months have done nothing but chase her children in search of a photo or some other succulent detail.
Shakira said that while it is understandable the curiosity aroused by her life and that of her family, especially in the midst of a scandal that spreads like gum and seems to have no end, her children have had “a very difficult year, suffering a relentless siege and relentless persecution.”
The interpreter of ‘Barefoot’ recently arrived in Miami with the aim of resuming her life before the decade she spent in Barcelona with the father of her children, with whom today she maintains a loud war.
But her arrival in South Florida has sparked even more interest in the children -Milan and Sasha, 8 and 10 years old-, who have not stopped making headlines since then: where will they go to school, what did they do before moving to Miami, where did they spend Easter, what extracurricular activities do they have, how much do their tuition fees cost, and so on and so forth.
“Now that they are starting a new stage in their lives I strongly request the media on behalf of my children to please respect their right to privacy. I ask you to refrain from following them to the exit or entrance of the school, waiting for them at the door of our house, or chasing them to their extra-curricular and recreational activities as has happened every day in Barcelona in order to obtain photographic captures or better ratings,” Shakira asked.
I extend this request no longer as an artist, but as a mother who wants to protect and care for the psychological and emotional well-being of her children so that they can live a healthy and happy life, as every child deserves.
