Even for Keanu Reeves, as happened for Lady Gaga before, censorship has been triggered in China. Almost all of his filmography has disappeared from all local streaming platforms.

This reaction from China was triggered by the actor’s participation in a charity event in support of Tibet.

Keanu Reeves’ participation in the event in support of Tibet was nothing new. In fact, last January, the announcement of his presence, on March 3, at the Tibet House US Benefit Concert which is held every year. Tibet House is an organization founded in 1987, is based in New York and is close to the Dalai-Lama . After the announcement, the Hollywood actor ‘s social networks were targeted by Chinese nationalists , who lashed out at him with insults and “threats” of boycott.

Confirmed Chinese streaming platforms have reacted by eliminating much of Reeves’ filmography. At least 19 films have been canceled from Tencent Video and iQiyi, including: Matrix , John Wick , Speed , Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure , Anything Can Happen , The Lake House of Time.

Keanu Reeves is, at the moment, the latest in a long line of celebrities now banned from China. Before him, it was indeed the turn of Lady Gaga whose songs and videos can no longer be played in China, but also Richard Gere and Selena Gomez.
