Estelle Harris, American actress known for her role in the series Seinfeldhas just died at the age of 93.
The one who played the mother of George Costanza (Jason Alexander), in 27 episodes of the 1990s series, died of natural death. Actor Jason Alexander paid tribute this Sunday to her “TV mom”:
“One of my favorite people just died – my TV mom, Estelle Harris. The joy of playing with her and enjoying her laughter was a treat. I adore you, Estelle.”
Her character first appeared on the show in 1992, in an episode titled The Contest.
Best known for this iconic role, alongside Jerry Stiller – father of actor Ben Stiller – who played the father of George Costanza, Estelle Harris began her career late, in 1977, at the age of 49, holding a small role in the film Looking Up. She was also seen in Sergio Leone’s masterpiece Once upon a time in America in 1984.
But it is especially on the small screen that Estelle Harris has led her career. Apart from Seinfeldshe has made appearances in many television series, such as Married, two children, New York Judicial Police, crazy about you, Sabrina the Teenage Witch.
Estelle Harris has also lent her voice to cartoon characters – she notably lent her voice to Madame Patate in the saga of Toy Storyand characters from animated series in Aladdin, Godzilla: The Series, Hercules Where Jake and the Neverland Pirates.
Her last screen appearance dates back to 2015, in a TV movie titled The Slice.
