Burt Bacharach, the composer of such hits as “I Say a Little Prayer” and “Do You Know the Way to San Jose,” died Thursday at age 94.
Bacharach died of natural causes at his home in Los Angeles, according to national media.
His music marked the pop culture of the 1960s and 1970s with songs such as “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head”, for which he won two Oscars in 1969, and his success earned him six Grammy Awards.
Throughout his career, he composed songs for artists such as Dionne Warwick, Dusty Springfield, Tom Jones and Aretha Franklin.
Bacharach was born on May 12, 1928 in Kansas City (Missouri), but his passion for music grew when he moved to Queens (New York), visiting jazz clubs.
After completing his education at McGill University in Montreal (Canada), the Mannes School of Music in New York and the Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara (California), he served in the Army between 1950 and 1952 as a pianist.
