The president of Ukraine, Volodomir Zelenski, has thanked the president of the United States, Joe Biden, for the new military aid to Ukraine of 270 million dollars announced this Friday that, in his opinion, “will accelerate the liberation” of his country.

In a message posted on the social network Twitter on Saturday morning, the Ukrainian president thanked the United States for “the new defense aid package for Ukraine.”

“These powerful, critically important weapons will save the lives of our soldiers and speed up the liberation of our land from the Russian aggressor,” says President Zelensky, ending his thanks with the phrase “Together until victory.”

The United States announced this Friday an additional military aid package for Ukraine valued at 270 million dollars, which includes weapons of greater precision capacity. The communications coordinator of the National Security Council, John Kirby, specified in a telephone press conference that the new shipment includes four High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS, in English) and ammunition for these long-range projectiles.

The package is also comprised of anti-armor systems, 36,000 artillery rounds and 580 Phoenix Ghost tactical drones. So far, the United States has provided twelve HIMARS to Ukraine, rising to sixteen with the aid just announced this Friday.

With the latter, the military support sent by the United States to Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian invasion on February 24 rises to 8.2 billion dollars. Previously, President Zelensky already celebrated the gradual change in the balance of forces that, in his opinion, is taking place in Ukraine thanks to the delivery by Western allies of increasingly powerful and precise weapons, such as HIMARS launchers.

According to Zelenski, “HIMARS has become a common word for us, just like Javelin or NLAW, like ‘Stugna’ or ‘Neptun’.”
