The appearance of former US President Donald Trump before a New York court has led dozens of supporters and detractors of the tycoon to gather in the vicinity of the court, where there have been scenes of tension amid heavy police surveillance.

Trump has announced that this Tuesday he will appear in Manhattan Criminal Court, where he will be read the charges attributed to him – there would be more than 30 – linked to the payment of $ 130,000 to actress Steffanie Clifford, better known as Stormy Daniels, days before the 2016 election.

The NYPD has stepped up surveillance in the area and the mayor, Democrat Eric Adams, has given a “clear and simple” message to those who want to take to the streets: “Control yourselves.”

The president has called on citizens to mobilize in the face of the “witch hunt” of which he says he feels victimized, and Congressmen Marjorie Taylor Green and George Santos, two of the most controversial members of the House of Representatives, passed by the courthouse on Tuesday.

The rally has not been without incident and protesters for and against Trump have come to fight next to the court, reports Fox News. A woman wearing a cap with the former president’s slogan — ‘Make America Great Again’ — has fallen to the ground on a banner that read: “Trump lies all the time”.

The former tenant of the White House, meanwhile, has spent the hours before his appearance to post messages on the social network he founded to charge against the prosecutor, the “radical” left-wing Democrats and the judicial system, as well as to share polls that place him as a favorite in the Republican Party primaries for the 2024 elections.
