The United States Government indicated, after the Russian recognition of the independence of the Ukrainian provinces of Donetsk and Lugansk, that more measures related to Russia’s “flagrant violation of international commitments” will be announced “soon”.

The White House has announced that US President Joe Biden will “soon” issue an Executive Order prohibiting “new investment, trade, and financing” by Americans “to, from, or in” Donetsk and Lugansk, in response to the recognition of its independence by Russia.

This has been reported by the United States Government in a statement in which it adds that “soon” measures related to Russia’s “flagrant violation of international commitments” will be announced.

“These measures are separate from and would be in addition to the swift and harsh economic measures we have prepared in coordination with allies and partners in the event that Russia invades Ukraine,” White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said.

Thus, from Washington they have stressed that consultations are continuing with the United States’ partners, including Ukraine , on “the next steps” and on the ongoing escalation of tensions in Eastern Europe.

Finally, the White House pointed out that during the previous days a movement of these characteristics by Moscow had already been “anticipated”, so the Biden Administration is “ready to respond immediately” .

President Biden has already contacted his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodimir Zelensky , to discuss Russian President Vladimir Putin’s recognition of the independence of the Ukrainian provinces of Donetsk and Lugansk.
