Following scheduling conflicts, Johan Renck is replaced by Kantemir Balagov to take care of the staging of the first episode of The Last of Us on the small screen.

Sony Pictures Television, PlayStation Productions and the American channel HBO have decided to entrust the production of the pilot episode of the serial adaptation of the license The Last of Us to Kantemir Balagov faced with Johan Renck’s withdrawal due to a scheduling problem, while the latter was happy to find his friend Craig Mazin in the project. Note that Naughty Dog, Word Games and The Mighty Mint are overseeing the development of the television show which should be broadcast next year if the shooting does not encounter difficulties by then.

Kantemir Balagov x the Last of Us, serious dramatic tone for HBO adaptation

Originally from Circassia (a historic region north of the Caucasus on the Black Sea coast), director Kantemir Balagov quickly rose to prominence in the film industry with the dark Russian dramas Closeness and Beanpole.
