Governor Orders Emergency Response for Texas Tornado Disaster
Governor Greg Abbott has ordered the deployment of state emergency response resources to meet the urgent needs of the population.
At least three people have been killed and more than 75 injured Thursday after a tornado ripped through the north Texas city of Perryton. Perryton Fire Chief Paul Dutcher, who reported the confirmed death toll, said there are between 75 and 100 injured who have been transported to hospitals.
The injured have different prognoses, as some people have cuts and bruises and others are in a more serious or critical condition, according to hospital sources consulted by the NBC television network.
Governor Greg Abbott has ordered state emergency response resources to be deployed to meet the urgent needs of the population. “The state of Texas is rapidly deploying critical emergency response resources to provide all necessary support and assistance to protect Texans and help those affected by the tornadoes in Perryton,” a statement reads.
“I encourage all Texans to heed the direction of state and local officials and take all necessary precautions to protect themselves and their loved ones. We remain ready to quickly provide any additional resources needed throughout the course of this severe weather event,” Abbott added.
The tornado was recorded Thursday as tornado warnings blanketed north and central Texas and much of Oklahoma because of severe weather across the region, according to the weather service.
