The order for now does not allow criminal enforcement of a virtual abortion ban, but clears the way for civil enforcement.

The Texas Supreme Court on Friday night blocked a lower court order allowing clinics to continue providing abortions , just days after some doctors resumed treating patients following the reversal of Roe v. wade.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) noted that the order for now does not allow criminal enforcement of a virtual abortion ban in Texas , but clears the way for civil enforcement.

It was not immediately clear whether Texas clinics that had resumed seeing patients this week will suspend services again . A hearing is scheduled for later this month.
