Homes in Cedar Park have been evacuated as authorities conduct an investigation into the presence of ‘suspicious items’ discovered inside a residence. The Cedar Park Police Department (CPPD) responded to a homeowner’s report of these items on Wednesday afternoon.

CPPD received a call from a homeowner residing on Parksville Way around 2 p.m., expressing concerns about the objects found within her residence. Given the nature of the situation, multiple agencies were summoned to provide assistance, including the Austin Fire Department, Austin Travis County EMS, the Austin Police Department’s Explosive Ordinance Disposal unit, the Cedar Park Fire Department, Cedar Park EMC, the FBI, and the ATF.

As a safety precaution, nearby residents were instructed to either evacuate or remain indoors, while certain streets were closed off. CPPD explains that the ATF was brought in due to suspicions that the items, believed to belong to an individual known to the homeowner, might contain potentially explosive materials. These materials could potentially be used for constructing explosives, as they consist of various fragments.

CPPD intends to dispatch teams to the residence to remove some of the materials, which will then be sent to the ATF laboratories for examination. The aim is to ascertain the composition and potential uses of the materials.

The investigation at the scene remains active and ongoing, with CPPD anticipating the release of additional information in the coming hours or days.

CPPD advises that the road may remain closed for an additional 2-3 hours while officials carry out their investigation. If possible, it is recommended to avoid the area.
