United States, August 31, 2023.- Six individuals were wounded by gunfire, and two of them are in critical condition, according to information provided by Police in Peoria, Illinois.
Eric Echevarria, Peoria Police Chief, told WEEK-TV that more than twenty-five gunshots were recorded, according to analysis of the ShotSpotter system, which captures the sounds of gunfire using permanent sensors.
“Obviously, when we arrived on the scene, there was chaos,” Echevarría commented.
Up to that point, police had no information on the possible motive behind the shooting. “Currently, we do not know how many possible suspects there are,” the police chief stated.
The response to the incident was immediate, and the office was assisted by the Peoria County Sheriff’s Department, the Illinois State Police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
As for the investigation, no information has yet been released about the possible perpetrators.
This marks the fourth shooting in Illinois in the past four days. In these events, two fatalities have been reported, and in connection with one of these incidents, charges were filed against a 17-year-old, as reported by the station.
