As Russia’s invasion of Ukraine approaches its second year, President Joe Biden is set to visit Poland, which borders Ukraine, this week. However, according to National Security Council spokesman John Kirby, there are currently no plans for the president to enter Ukraine during the trip.

Maintaining Solidarity with the Ukrainian People

Kirby emphasized that the United States continues to stand in solidarity with the Ukrainian people, leading the world in terms of contributions, whether it be through providing humanitarian aid or military weapons to Ukraine. The U.S. also aims to use its convening power to marshal the world and galvanize support for Ukraine.

Bilateral Meeting with Polish President Andrzej Duda

During the trip, President Biden is set to have a bilateral meeting with Polish President Andrzej Duda. The agenda also includes remarks on global unity in Warsaw, expressing gratitude towards Poland for its support to Ukraine, refugees, and U.S. troops who are currently deployed in Poland.

Thanking Warsaw for its Support

Kirby noted that Warsaw has been a “good friend” and has “really stepped up” as a NATO ally. The President is expected to arrive in Warsaw on Tuesday and conclude the trip the following day, ahead of the one-year anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on Friday.
